Day 29-30 Selfie

So the last challenge for the 30 powders in 30 days is a selfie. I went a lttle different than I did with Albert Eistein but the results still not good.  I'm so not good at portraits.

That being said I so enjoyed this challenge. Even though I can't draw very well I learned a lot. I never considered using my fingers. I learned everything is a tool from a fork, to rubber tool to feathers.
I am going to do more drawings thats for sure. And with more time I might get better.

Sorry to see it end. I learned so much and had a lot of fun.

Days 27 & 28

Wow We were supose to draw Albert Einstein and as you can see I'm horrible with portraits. I used my trusty vanilla base and black frit.  It was really difficult for me. Clearly I won't be drawing portriats!  We had 2 days to do it but since I was behind and wanted to finish on time I finished in one day.

Day 26 - 2 handed tree

Day 26 is also a tree but there is a big twist. We had to draw the tree from the bottom up so we turned it upside down and draw the tree from the bottom side up. Additionally the right side was drawn with my right hand and the left side with my left hand. Quite a challenge.

I used a vanilla base and black frit. If you look straight at it the right side was my left hand and the left side is with my right. Still  it was a struggle to separate the left from the right.

on to day 27

Karen

Day 25 - Tree with left hand

Today's post is based on Day 25.  The challenged involved drawing a tree with my nondominant hand i.e. my left hand. As you cn see I struggled  with it.  My left hand was so shakey. I never noticed how my hand shook so much.

I used my fingers and a business card.  I just used a vanilla base and black frit. It looks like a skeleton tree!

I'm actually behind quite a bit but I didn't want to stop the challenge.

Day 24 - left hand tree

Day 24 a tree without using our dominant hand. wow that was pretty tough for me. I don't use my left hand much.

I just used my fingers, vanilla base, and black frit.

it looks like a monster tree!  Not good. definately need more practice with my left hand!

day 23 collection

day 23 is a freedom day we were supposed to draw something we collect. Since I served 22 years in the Air Force I have collected everything from knives to dolls. One thing I've collected all over the world is vases.  The collectable I chose isn't a vase but a cup. It's from the Czech Republic and it's for drinking the mineral water.  I have several of them they are so cool.

As always I just used a vanilla base and black frit.

Day 22 sharp and tiny

Day 22 is a safety pin and it was harder than you'd think.  As always I used a vanilla base with black frit. To get a straight line I used a razor blad in addition to my fingers and my rubber tool.

on to day 23. I liked it better when I just did it once a day. but I've learned so much from this challenge.

Day 21 flowers & vase

Day 21 flowers and vase. Because of work (14 hr days) I'm pretty behind so today I tried to catch up a little bit.  First I did day 21 with the flowers and vase. My glass base is small so at first my vase was pretty big in relationship to my flowers but I just kept adjusting it to make the size more equitable with the flowers.  Still using a vanilla base and black frit. For the most partim just using my fingers and my rubber tool.

On to day 22 so I can catch up!

Day 20 Flower - Karen

Day 20 is another flower and I must say I love flowers and I've never been good at drawing them so I enjoy the chance to draw more flowers. This one is a tulip. I've been to Holland several times in my life and I've always enjoyed them. In fact I have a small delf one in my living room.

As always I'm just using French Vanilla and black as always. I also just used my rubber tool, my fingers and a business card. I find it facinating that until this challenge I never used my fingers now I do all the time. Crazy.

BTW I'm late again due to work. Hopefully I'll catch up on Sunday at the latest.

Day 16 - triptych powder

Today is the 16th day of the 30 day powder challenge.  We are suppose to do a triptych drawing. Which is either a picture that has 3 panels or 3 pictures that go together i.e., a series.  I drew a peacock feather. I put the glass (vanilla) together then sifted the powder (black) over the entire 3 pieces of glass then drew my design. The other thing we were supose to do is to make the picture white and keep the background. I used my finger, the backend of a skewer, and my handy dandy rubber tool.

It's nice to be caught up again but it's only for a couple of days as I will be working late again.

What will Day 17 bring!

Karen

Day 19 - Flower

Today is day 19 of  the 30 day challenge and it's a flower. I used just my fingers and my rubber tool. I so wish I could draw better but I still am very happy with how much I've learned doing this challenge.  I'm still using just a vanilla (Base) and black (Powder) glass.

BTW Day 17 & 18 was the other 2 parts of the triptych powder.

on to day 20 - so exxxcited!

Day 15 - Something I ate

Day 15 is something I ate.  For breakfast I typically eat eggs and toast.  I used just my fingers and business card to draw my breakfast. As always black frit and a vanilla base.

As I mentioned I'm behind schedule so I'm trying to catch up.

On to day 16th!

I'm soo enjoyng this challenge

Karen

Day 14 - something scary

Day 14 of the 30 powders in 30 days was draw something that scares you. First Sharks scare me albeit we drew that last time, so what else scares me.  What scares me most in life is something happening to my children but I don't want to think about that needless to say drawing something happining to my children. Next I thought what else scares me and it's heights; bridges, buildings, mountains, pretty much anything I can fall off of!  So here is my scary picture of me falling off of something high!

Same rules I used a rubber tool, business card and my fingers.  I used a vanilla base and black frit.

BTW just looking at this drawing scares me.

Also I'm behind in my drawings because of work. I'll try to catch up!

Day 13 - Day of the Shark

Today's drawing was of a shark and I created it first thing in the morning then forgot to post it. It was a challenge and I used a rubber tool I had to help creat the sharp poiints. Still using just vanilla and black.  The inside of the mouth was definately tough, but it was interesting to draw it.

Hopefully I'll remember to post on time next time!

Day 12 - Ipad - Karen Ferrantelli

So Day 12 of my 30 day powder challenge.  Today we are suppose to draw something we use everyday. It's a tossup between my Ipad and my Iphone but I chose the Ipad because I use it more because of it's size.

I used my fingers, a business card and to get the inside and letters sharp I used a rubber tool. I'm not sure of it's real purpose but I do like it for sharp edges.

Again I used french vanilla and black. I wrote what it is inside because it could have been a tv, phone, book or numerous other items.

I like it. I'm back on track now so I'm looking forward to day 13.

Karen

Day 11 Take 2 Karen Ferrantelli

I'm not sure how I messed it up but I was suppose to do a veggie with texture not a fruit. So I drew cauliflower for my veggie. I used a business card, my fingers and a q-tip this time. If I were keeping it I would have definately done it in the right colors and I probably would have used fine or medium frit verses powder but I still enjoyed making my veggie.

just used my normal black and french vanilla.

Next time I'll try to read the instructions properly and not draw a fruit when it's should be a veggie.

Day 11 Playing with Fruit

Day 11, today is another fruit day this time we're going to play with it.

It was fun, but I couldn't get my apple very round. still using just black frit and vanilla base. I also just used my fingers and my business card. It's funny we're allowed to use another tool now, but I really like the effects with just fingers and the buisness card.

Will tomorrow be a fruity day or something different?

Still enjoying my powder challenge.

Day 10 fruit continued

Day 10 of 30 powders in 30 days. With this I'm back on schedule for my powder challenge.  Today's challenge was to draw fruit in a scene. I drew a cutie and an apple with just my fingers, a business card and taped together feathers (the ends). I'm still struggling with the shadows but I am still enjoying it.

I'm still using just black frit and a vanilla base. I wonder if I'll ever be happy enoy to fire a piece.

I wonder what will tomorrow's challenge will bring. I can't believe I'm already at day 10. Hopefully I'll be able to stay up from now on, but it will be tough because of work. We'll see.

Karen

Day 9 - a piece of fruit

Actually I'm a little late, it's day 10 but I'm only posting Day 9. I'm coming down with a cold and I was too yucky yesterday to do much of anything after I got home from work.

So Day 9 is drawing a piece of fruit. I looked in the frig and all I found was a tiny cutie, but hey it's fruit.
I've never drawn fruit before so it wasn't that easy. especially the reflectiion on the table. I used my fingers, a business card and several feathers taped together then used the ends to make the little dimples in the cutie. Not too bad for my first one. I really have to figure out the shadow.

Since I was late for Day 9 I"ll do Day 10 later and lucky for me it's another piece of fruit so I'll get  another chance. I think I'll go to the store for some more fruit!

In case there is any doubt I won't be firing it and I am still using black frit with a vanilla base.

Day 8 With a new tool

RToday is day 8 of the 30 powders in 30 days. We were able to use a new tool again as long as it wasn't a paint brush. Basically the same as yesterday. yesterday I used a skewer but today I had a 3 sided tool with 3 different edges. two were pretty cool. So I used it to create a design then I drew a flower.

I enjoyed it but I'd like it more if I could draw. Yes I know I say this every day but it's true!

My first powder flower
Second flower

3rd flower without the tool

Yep I'm still having fun with powder.

What will tomorrow bring?

Day 7 - we get to use a tool

So today is day 7 of the 30 powders in 30 days and we get to use a tool (except for a paintbrush). I like using the business card and my fingers so much that I chose a simple tool i.e.,a bbq skewer. I also didn't get into detail. After playing these last few days with just the business card and my fingers I realized it's best to play around and see the movement of the glass with the tool and different ways to used the tool. So I used the pointy end, the dull end and the side of the skewer.

I also found it fun to creat a few simple pieces. Again I'm using a vanilla base and black powder and I'm not firing any of them.

This one is just manipulating the glass with my finger the side of the skewer and the dull end. I like it but only because I see different things in it.

This one I used the sharp end and the dull end of the skewer. I actually like the dull end better than the sharp.

I find creating these powders extremely relaxing. if I could just draw something pretty I'd be happy and enjoy it even more. until then I am just going to continue to experiment and practice with various tools.
Hopefully we will have the similar task tomorrow i.e., just adding 1 tool.

Until tomorrow,

Karen

Day 6 the human form

So today is day 6 of the 30 powders in 30 days. Today I wanted to "draw" something I've never drawn before.  The human form, and I use the term very loosely. I've always said I can draw stick people. Albeit I felt compeled to draw something new and something I've never tried before. After seeing them you'll know why.  I defiantly still can't draw the human body but I enjoyed the exercise. Still just using my fingers and business card but this time I folded and manipulated the business card to get into small spaces.

This challenge is definately making me work out side my comfort zone but I'm still enjoying it so much!   Albeit I'm working a lot of late days this month so I'm not sure if I'll feel that way when I'm doing my drawings at 9pm at night!

Ok this is a side view and wow her breast is big! and where are her arms. maybe she's covering up her breast and that's why it's so big - yep that's my story and I'm sticking with it!

  • ok I like this one better it's the back view and look she has arms but wow those are some nasty elbows!

ok side view again with the wacked out elbow is someone twisting her arm. Yep that's what it is someone is twisting her arm that way!

ok another back view. I just can't draw breast properly so the back is much easier at least the elbows are a little better, but she has a very short torso!

ok I got tired of drawing a female body I thought I'd draw a face. look it's Charlie Brown.
wow, I'm really not good at drawing humans.

It's been lots of fun anyway!

Day 5 of powder fun

So Day 5 is was a repeat of day 4. In other words 5 powder drawings in no more than 5 minutes each.
Just tried to play a little more. Still just using vanilla and black powder.

1st: just loosing up on my first one

2: Still playing around

3: fishes

4: tree & owl

5: leaves

Still enjoying this challenge! I just wish I could draw.

Having fun!!

5 powders in 30 minutes

So today's challenge was to draw 5 drawings in 5 minutes with just our fingers and a business card.

Since I really struggle with drawing I thought I just "play" with the glass without purpose.

The first one is just with the business card. I found it interesting is just with the business card how many variations could be created.

This one was just with my finger and I just wanted to play and see what turned out.

This one is just with the pad of my finger.
I actually like the dots!

My version of flowers, im rally not good at drawing.

I like this one I see lots of things but my first response was he's about to eat the cake!

All of theses we're on vanilla with black powder. I am not firing any of them.

But I will say I enjoy playing with the powder!!

Looking forward to Monday's challenge!

Day 3 landscape just fingers & business card

I love the mountains but I'm not great at drawing them, so this was a challenge.  I'm still only using my fingers and a business card. I really like using my fingers. It's very freeing!

I'm still not firing and in still using just black and vanilla.

I'm really enjoying this challenge.

Day 2 fingers and business card

I learned my lesson and actually read the instructions for day 2 powder drawing!

We're suppose to use are fingers and a business card so that's what I did. At some points I didn't have enough powder so I pinched some in place with my fingers.

I'm not firing so still just using vanilla and black!

I'm really enjoying this challenge. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's instructions.

Karen

Fixed my mistake for Day 1

Ok. I made a mistake for Day 1 I was suppose to only use my fingers. I've never just used my fingers so I didn't expect much but I must say I was pretty happy with it. Just used vanilla and black and just my fingers. I like it.

Not just fingers

My first drawing wasn't just with my fingers. I didn't see that stipulation. so tomorrow I'll do one with just my fingers. Sorry about that. I don't know how I missed it.

Karen

Day 1 of 30 day Powder Challenge

Ok first I'm horrible at drawing but I live in Colorado so I love the mountains and wanted to draw some mountains. hopefully I'll get a little faster this took me quite some time.

I used french vanilla for my base and black powder. I used a razor blade and a couple of other tools I found on my work table.

I didn't fire this one I just want to get better and take pictures.

This Challenge is going to be so much fun.
